He also pitched for the Charleston Air Force Base’s softball league, which was his favorite sport. For him, it was a dream come true. But in 2010, the most unimaginable thing happened on his way to a game. Ask a mother who has to see her son’s picture and realize she won’t meet him again.
This 36-year-old man was killed in a car accident. As an Arlington, Texas native, his body was interred in Conroe, Texas at Garden Park Cemetery. 86-year-old Jake Reissig lost his wife, Betty, of 65 years back in 2014. They both used to have a perfect life together and had nine children. But after she died, the Conroe resident started a routine that he continues to do to this day. Right from the day Jake’s wife died, he starts his day by going to the church.
Then he meets one of his kids for coffee before heading back home. He then picks few of his wife’s favorite flowers from his garden and goes to his wife’s grave at Garden Park Cemetery.
But he not only visit his dead wife, he makes sure to water this mother’s dead son’s headstone before leaving her the roses. No matter what time of the year it is, he never fails to follow this routine.
When Jake’s wife was alive he used to give her a rose every day and he still does after she died. He talks to his wife and spends time with her by her grave. But back in, something made him change his daily routine.
In 2015 in the season of summer, a terrible drought hit Texas which caused everything to dry up and turn yellow. But Jake watered the grass around his wife’s grave to make it green again. While doing so one day he saw a woman crying uncontrollably by a nearby headstone, and it looked heart-wrenching. After talking to her he found out that her husband, Joseph was dead for 5 years now and she misses him.
After several months when Joseph Villasenor parents went to visit his grave they couldn’t believe what they saw. While all the other graves were covered with dead grass, the grass on their son’s plot was green and lively. They had no idea how it happened and believed it to be some kind of miracle.
Jake walked up to Joseph’s bewildered parents and explained to them how he’d spoken to their daughter-in-law a few months earlier. He also told them about his daily routine and how he decided to do the same for Joseph’s grave. Jake felt that it was the least he could do for a man who served his country.
He understood because he lost someone who was in armed forces too. Jake’s daughter, Misha, was married to a U.S. veteran named Benjamin. But after being deployed, Ben learned he had cancer. Sadly, despite undergoing chemo, his son-in-law passed away in 2011. Misha has since remarried and now has two children, but the entire family still keeps Benjamin close to their heart. So, Jake totally sympathized with Raymond and Rachel’s family in such a painful, but special way. This mother has tears in her eyes every time she saw her son’s grave so green and all because of a sweet gesture of Jake.
